Male chinchillas have a large gap between the Anus and the penile cone. Some males show their testicles, others are able to retract them.
It's important to know what sex your chinchilla is, whether it be to know about routine husbandry each sex needs or to be sure to make the right choices when adding more chinchillas to your herd. Improperly sexing your pets can lead to unwanted pregnancies, or even fights over dominance. Here you will find photos to help you determine what sex your pet is.

Here you can see a male.

Notice, While he still has a large gap between the penile cone and anus, his testicles are not to be see. Males have the ability to retract their testicles into their bodies.
* Tip: Males also have an opening at the tip of the penile cone.

Female Chinchilla

Here you can see a female chinchilla.

Female chinchillas do not have a large gap between the anus and uterine cone. They are squished closely together. Females also have a slice down the cone from top to bottom ( the opening of the vagina ).
